3 paintings from my Black Saturday series are showing in the Cato Gallery downstairs.

These are the paintings I have in the Contemporary Exhibition. They come from my Black Saturday Series, I feel the experience they represent is very current after the recent fires in South West Victoria and Tathra (March 2018).

With the Abstract Red tones I am reflecting the image that came to me the night before the Fire saying how "everything would be changed by the events of the following day".

As it happens the experience of the Fire is as shown, that experience is a definite marker in ones life.

Fragility and Balance After the Fires - Black Saturday - Louise Foletta

The series of charcoal images show the progression of the burnt pasture:

Black Saturday Progression of the Fire - Louise Foletta

1. The fragile burnt grass now ash, before the wind blew it away,

2 By the following week the Flat Weed had sent up a new set of leaves and flower stalks like little flags symbolising hope,

3  After the rain green grass through the blackened ground ,

4 Return of pasture and crops which dry out in the summer heat,

5 The possible return of fire again repeating the cycle. The charcoal edged paper behind symbolises the fear of fire that is present each summer.

The use of charcoal, some from the Black Saturday fire is significant as I felt a need to have this connection with the work.
